The Revival of a
Canadian Landmark

One of the most ambitious heritage redevelopment projects in Canada’s history, The Post revitalized a historic Vancouver icon, safeguarding its preservation and transforming it into a vibrant destination in the city’s downtown core. Constructed between 1953-58 and occupying an entire city block, the former Main Post Office is an exceptional example of International Style architecture in Western Canada. Designed by the prominent local architectural firm of McCarter Nairne & Partners with the Federal Department of Public Works, the municipally-designated building has undergone a significant rehabilitation program.

Luxton, over the course of a decade, helped manage the renewal of this Vancouver landmark and ensured its seismic upgrade, restoration, and sensitive rehabilitation were completed in a manner to conserve the heritage value of the original building, while modernizing it to facilitate new office and commercial uses. The monumental scale of The Post is enhanced with large-scale public art works, which were also restored as part of the project and the site will become home to historic neon signs from the Museum of Vancouver.
